This film's comedy is based entirely on vicious, childish attacks that are not funny at all. Even after the kids grow up, they retain their malicious mean streak and selfish disregard for the entire world outside themselves. Well, maybe you'll find it funny if you're the kind of kid who likes to tear the wings off of flies.
The cancer quickly overtakes him, and, soon enough, he’s in a hospital bed going through the various stages of grief, with anger turning into fear and, eventually, something like wizened acceptance. Emmanuelle Bercot’s drama about a man diagnosed with late-stage cancer plays like a eulogy for a nearly bygone era of French cinema and its stars. This romantic pastiche is rather uneven and corny, but is packed with characters who are thoroughly intriguing. We may not like them very much, but we recognise ourselves in there. This is a rich, beautifully written exploration of romantic self-delusion. The playing - particularly Bonneville - is assured and the dialogue constantly fires off cracking one-liners.

The two younger kids always ran across the bare pavement to cut through a field for school. Marion the smart younger sister is concerned about carbon dioxide poisoning. Judith continues to sunbathe in the front yard and gives the finger to honking truck drivers. Then big trucks arrive to lay down a fresh coating of asphalt, and steel guardrails are installed on each side and down the middle. Workmen wordlessly clear the highway of their hockey sticks, inflatable swimming pool, satellite dish, charcoal grill and so on. On the radio, they hear breathless coverage of the road's grand opening, and eventually the first car speeds past their house.
What you will find in French is a valuable social story rather than a sports broadcast document. As in his previous documentary Muhammad Ali, the greatest, Klein is not only interested in athletes and their physical prowess, but also in the social ramifications of their efforts and the world around them. Although French unfolds in chronological order, Klein’s overview is free and always on the lookout for setting apart.

I am a huge fan of watching movie that are sold in their native languages. This is a wonderful movie for the entire family to watch.

Oh, except that their rather run-down shabby house sits right bang next to a motorway, that carries no traffic, except as the biggest car park imaginable for the family, who also use it as an extension to their property. They need to cross this bitumen desert to reach civilisation; work, shops and school for the kids. The film had its world festival premiere at the Dawn Breakers International Film Festival in 2012.
It's the skill of Ursula Meier, the director and co-writer, to bring us to those fraught passages by rational stages. What happens would not make sense in many households, but in this one, it represents a certain continuity, and confirms deep currents we sensed almost from the first. The film, which was available for free release until 14 June, has been broadcast in 14 languages. The Blu-ray edition was released by 20th Century Fox and features both the English and French versions.

But then taking it to another level by dragging innocent bystanders into their game ... The story eventually starts upon Nelly’s discovery of her mother’s treehouse, as there is another young girl who strikes an uncanny resemblance to Nelly, by the name of Marion. Although, this resemblance is not by chance, as Nelly’s mother is also called Marion. With this partnered together with the translation of the title, the plot is revealed quite plainly. The narration seems to have been done over-hastily. Glenn Close obviously was not well-coached nor was her narration work reviewed or edited properly.
Sometimes you find yourself to think they hide a secret. I recently saw this at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival where writer/director Ursula Meier was on hand at my screening for an audience Q&A following the film. Meier explained that she got the idea for the film by seeing a house near a busy highway and letting her imagination run away with what kind of people would live there and the effect of being so close to a highway on them.
Which means good acting and a screenplay from Aschlin Ditta that has some shrewd moments but not an awful lot of cinematic flair. The film is clever, funny and emotionally truthful and the parodies of Grimandi's films are deadly accurate. I hardly finished this film, because I hoped that these two scum will die a painful death. Imaginative cinematography by Antoine Roch and special effects keep you guessing what is real or fantasy or flash forward or metaphor and keeps vengeance from overwhelming the romantic comedy mode. This film reminds the viewer of low budget "Amelie", but without the originality of its model. The premise is that two kids grow up playing a mean-spirited game in which they constantly dare each other to do cruel things to innocent bystanders.
In any event, as the film opens, they live in a comfortable small home in the middle of vast fields and next to the highway, which hasn't been used for 10 years. So much is the road their turf that the story begins with them playing a family game of street hockey on its pavement.
